Understanding what's excluded helps ensure our limited funds go to the repairs that matter most — keeping vehicles safe, reliable, and roadworthy.
Vehicle & Value Exclusions
Repairs over vehicle value
Denied if costs exceed the car's Kelley Blue Book value. Clients may transition to a vehicle replacement program instead.
Luxury and exotic brands
Excludes high-end makes like BMW, Mercedes, and Land Rover due to specialized parts and diagnostic costs.
Commercial or income vehicles
Denies repairs for commercial vans, box trucks, or vehicles used primarily for rideshare and delivery gigs.
Salvage or unsafe titles
Refuses service for vehicles with cracked frames, severe structural rust, or unresolvable safety issues.
System & Component Exclusions
Air conditioning systems
Excluded from standard repair unless required for documented medical vulnerability.
In-car entertainment
Denies all work on stereos, infotainment systems, backup cameras, and video screens.
Cruise control systems
Excluded from diagnostics and repair as a non-essential driving aid.
Power windows and sunroofs
Denies mechanical repairs unless components are stuck open to the elements.
Business & Commercial Vehicles Not Covered
Drive Forward Lane County provides vehicle repair assistance for personal vehicles used by individuals and families for essential transportation. We do not provide repair assistance for:
- Vehicles owned by a business, corporation, LLC, partnership, nonprofit organization, or other organization
- Company-owned or employer-owned vehicles
- Commercial fleet vehicles
- Vehicles primarily used to operate a business or provide commercial services
- Work trucks, work vans, or other vehicles primarily used as business equipment
- Vehicles primarily used for commercial hauling, towing, construction, contracting, landscaping, delivery, transportation-for-hire, or similar commercial purposes
Your commute doesn't disqualify you
- Using a personal vehicle to commute to and from work does NOT make it a business vehicle and does not disqualify an applicant.
- If an applicant uses a personally owned vehicle for occasional work-related activities or income-producing activities, Drive Forward Lane County may review the circumstances individually to determine whether the vehicle is primarily a personal household vehicle or a commercial/business vehicle.
Additional Notes
- Cosmetic repairs, performance upgrades, luxury accessories, routine maintenance, and other non-essential vehicle improvements are not eligible.
- All repair funding decisions are made based on program policies, available funding, and the judgment of Drive Forward Lane County.
- Exceptions to these exclusions may be considered in extraordinary circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
